Day Fifteen: In Paris!

This morning we packed up and headed to Paris, which isn't far from Versailles, like maybe 20-30km or something. We stopped at a bakery type place on the way where the girl didn't speak any English and I obviously don't speak any French but I still managed to get two kinds of bread with cheese in them and two tiny coffees, yay! We drove to the campsite in Paris which is pretty sweet since it's actually inside the 'ring road' around Paris which means it is super close to things. They also have free wi-fi, a shop and a restaurant in case we need things.

You can get a shuttle a bit closer into town to near a metro/bus/train station so we got on one of those and decided to walk into town from there, and see the arc de triomphe on the way. It's way bigger than I expected and you can climb up it if you want but me and Quentin were not too keen so we kept heading down the road which was now the champes de elysses which is a pretty famous road with heaps of restaurants and fancy shops, and which also is where the tour de france ends next month. We walked down there for awhile and saw heaps of people begging and lots of them had dogs with them. They dogs looked happy though so I wasn't too worried about them. One had some tiny puppies drinking the milk from the mummy dog, so cute!

We also saw that the employees of Virgin had taken over a store on this street, and also 8 more across France (or Paris, I can't remember) because all the stores were being shut down and they hadn't been paid (something like that) so now the employees were occupying it 24/7, crazy! We were hungry by that time so started looking for somewhere to eat. Everytime we do it means we will end up in a place where there are no restaurants or anything! So we headed back the way we came and went into a pub type place and got some cheeseburgers and fries and beer, not very French but oh well. Their fries were super good though.

After lunch we headed to the Musee d'Orsay to see some famous arts. That was pretty sweet, there was so much to see though and we were getting tired so we only stayed there for a couple of hours and then went back to the camp to have some soup for dinner because it was getting cold and rainy. Apparently it was meant to be the first day of Summer but the weather here is super unpredictable, like worse than Wellington and that is saying something! Quentin and I can never seem to get it right!

Oh also I thought that French people always having baguettes was like a joke or something... turns out it is actually well true. So many people are carrying around baguettes all of the time, and eating them on the street, and every single place seems to sell them, I'm pretty sure baguettes are everyones favourite in France!
