Adventure Time!: Day Thirty-Eight: Colosseum rulz!

We were supposed to wake up early this morning so we could go and see the colosseum before it got too hot but we accidently slept in again. Shade is the best! We managed to get ready to go by 10.30 though which was better than the last couple of days! We got the shuttle to the train station with a few other people, two girls from Wales and two from South Africa who were heading into town but hadn't used the train before. We tried to show them how to get tickets but the machine was broken as usual so they ended up going on it for free like we have each afternoon when the machine is broken!

We got the train and then the metro to the stop closest to the colosseum but walked for a bit to the Roman Forum so we could go and look around that first, and then we would already have our tickets for the colosseum and not have to wait in line! We did have to wait a little bit but probably less than half an hour so that was all good. There were heaps of people around selling things (like there are everywhere) like hats, fans and parasols. Luckily we still have our fans from Japan, they have been super good here since it is so blimmen hot! I saw a guy try to sell a hat to a guy who was already wearing a hat, not sure what he expected there.

The roman forum was awesome, it was so big and had heaps of different stuff, like churchhes, a town square, places where people used to live and gardens and stuff. It's so crazy to think that it is all more than 2000 years old and the romans used to be walking around there, and gladiators and stuff! There is a lot that has survived which is pretty amazing. We spent a couple of hours walking around there before heading out the exit towards the colosseum. We got a panini for a snack on the way over with tuna, tomato and salad, yum!

The colosseum line was super long, it looked like people would be waiting for hours in it so we were glad that we already had tickets and could go straight in. It was super cool. We hadd a good look around the colosseum and at all the levels and stuff. It seemed like you should have been able to go right to the top but we couldn't find a way to get up or see anyone up there so maybe you couldn't. They have all sorts of things on display there as well which had been found in the colosseum like statues, coins, plates, helmets etc which was way awesome to see. Heaps of the signs were in English as well which was useful.

After the colosseum we went to see the Piazza Campagdoglio or something like that (I always forget the names) which had some sweet statues and fountains in the square which was surrounded on three sides by museums. There was an awesome statue of a guy riding a horse in the middle. That was all we wanted to see for the day in Rome so we thought we would head back to the Metro station but wanted to find a supermarket first to get some liquor. Little did we know that would add a long time onto our journey! By the time we got some gin and back to the Metro I think we had been walking around for about 7 hours and were well ready for a rest.

When we got back to camp it was so good to be able to have a shower and relax in the shade. I had got a salad for dinner since I have been missing out on veges and Quentin got a pizza (cheese, tomato, tuna, onions) from the camp pizzeria so I had to have a couple of pieces of that too, it was well good, especially with the onions! We hung out in the shop/patio area for a bit having our dinner and using the internet and then went back to our camp area for some big beer and some gin and juice. We could hear the contiki people whooping it up down in their area, two of the girls we met earlier told us it was their last night so they seemed to be really going for it, although it had gone pretty quiet by only about 10.30.
