After we saw that we wanted to go back into the main tourist area to check out Las Ramblas and the Gothic Quarter but we kept going weird ways. We saw heaps of slums because apparently Barcelona is basically slums the whole time. Also it is really dirty and has heaps of graffiti and smells bad, almost everywhere! It's like the city is one giant toilet! Gross. We also came across what may have been a commercial being filmed for aasics, they had closed part of the street down and were making people pretend to start a race over and over.
We eventually found part of the waterfront and were super thirsty by then so we went into a petrol station to get a drink and decided to get some Barcelona beer. They sell individual beers at petrol stations here and apparently don't have any rules against drinking in public, score! I saw some people get their wine taken off them at the eiffel tower in France and felt bad but not here. Also a guy tried to sell us beer on the beach yesterday. Anyway we went to the beach and had our beer and watched people try to windsurf with basically no wind, it wasn't working out for them too well.
After that we went to look for some food and found some street stalls, I was tempted just to get cheese but instead we got empenadas. One with tuna and capsicum and tomato, one with tomato, mozzarella and basil, and one with eggplant, cheese, tomato and capsicum. They were all yum but the tuna one was a bit fishy. Our fave was the tomato/mozzarella one. We headed towards las ramblas after that and were quite dissapointed with it, it was pretty slummy like the rest of the city but with heaps of people selling terrible souveneirs. We did see some sweet human statue buskers though.
We were getting pretty tired by then because we had been walking for about 5 hours as usual so headed back to where the van was parked and decided to head out of town to the beach because we had had enough of the stinky city. We drove about an hour or so up the coast to a town called Blais to spend the night. We couldn't find the place that the internet said to stay at so instead we parked down at the beach and went across to hang out and read and drink some gin and juice. We are still parked there now and hopefully we can stay the night and have some beach time tomorrow because I need to even up my tan! Only the top of my body and my feet are tan and the moment so I look a bit weird :(
We had some DIY tapas for dinner, olives, tomatos, cheese, tortilla and salsa, it was delicious! I could eat tortilla every day! Yay for potato! We were planning to stay in Spain longer but since it is so hard to find places to stay we are thinking of heading back into the South of France tomorrow for a few days on our way to Italy, and hopefully we can go to the beach some more there because they are so nice and the water isn't even cold!
I am totally starting to get homesick though and miss everyone! It's weird not having had a conversation with anyone except Quentin since we left Jess and Stu since noone seems to speak English! Oh also I forgot to say that when we were on the beach a dodgy looking black guy came up to us and asked if we smoked weed, when we said no he asked if we wanted some coke! We said no and laughed but he kept hanging around a bit like he thought we would change our minds! Not sure what that was all about, probably a scam!
