After breakfast we got on the road towards Pisa which was a crazy drive, it seemed like we were in the middle of nowhere for hours! We would go through places where there would be a random restaurant or campsite and be confused about how they got any business since there wasn't anything around, or any people living near. There were some small towns as well which was weird because we couldn't figure out how the people earned their money, it didn't look like there was any farming or forestry or anything going on. Mysterious.
We had lunch (tuna sambos, yum!) the top of a mountain with an amazing view of the mmountains around us and out to the ocean, super nice and noone else around. Of course there was a random restaurant there but they didn't have any customers. With most of the places we pass it's pretty hard to tell if they are even open or not.
When we got to Pisa it was quite a surprise because one minute we were in the countryside with basically nothing around and the next minute we were in what seemed to be a small country town but was actually Pisa! I guess I was expecting it to be a big city since we had been through a lot of big cities already and they were usually where the stuff we wanted to see was.
We saw the top of the leaning tower as we were driving around looking for somewhere to park. There was a parking area for campers but you had to pay like 15 Euro just to park there so we just went and parked at another massive carpark where you didn't have to pay and the leaning tower was only like a few minutes away.
We did some reading outside and had a big beer called dab which was a one litre can, crazy! Then had some spinach and ricotta tortellini with basil sauce for dinner, it was only from the supermarket but it was so delicious! Better than the fresh pasta you can get in NZ, but I guess that is to be expected! Then we watched the end of season three of skins and went to sleep so we could wake up early to go see the leaning tower before all the other tourists.
